What we collect. Check it.
monedula.dev is a noncommercial site run by the people on the About page. It has no accounts, no forms, no ads and no cookies. This page lists everything that happens to data about you while you read it.
Visit statistics
We count visits with GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics service. When a page loads, a script from gc.zgo.at sends it the address of the page, the page you came from, and your language, screen width, browser and operating system.
In the Kafka Simulator the same script also counts a few anonymous events, such as starting or finishing a scenario, copying a link or the name of a terminal command you ran. It never sends what you type.
GoatCounter works out your country from your IP address but does not store the address, the full User-Agent header or any identifier. To tell a repeat visit from a new one, it holds the site, your IP address and your User-Agent in memory for up to 8 hours, never in its database. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, and its data sits on Hetzner servers in Finland and Germany. Block the script and the site works the same.
Server logs
The site is hosted by OVHcloud. Like any web server, it logs each request: your IP address, the time, the address requested, the page you came from and your User-Agent header. OVHcloud keeps these logs to run and secure the hosting. We do not use them to identify anyone.
In your browser
The Kafka Simulator remembers a few settings in your browser's local storage: the color theme, whether you have seen its tour, which panels you collapsed, how far its bottom sheet is open and which scenarios you finished. Its kafka-cli terminal keeps your command history in session storage, which the browser empties when you close the tab. None of it is sent to us, and clearing the site's data in your browser removes it.
Everything else
Fonts, images and scripts are served from monedula.dev itself; the GoatCounter script and the count it sends are the only requests a page makes to another site. Links to GitHub, LinkedIn and other sites take you to services with privacy policies of their own.
Writing to us
We publish no email address and run no forms. A message on LinkedIn or an issue on GitHub is handled by that service under its own terms, and we use what you send only to answer it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us what we hold about you and have it corrected or deleted; the statistics above hold nothing that identifies you. Ask through the contact page. You can also complain to a data protection authority.
