The simulator grows in numbered releases: 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and on. Each release is a pack with a theme, starting with Fundamentals in 1.0, and adds scenarios on that theme, new free-play topologies or tools, or both.

What a release decides

Everything the simulator offers carries the version that first ships it, and a build of the site includes everything up to its release:

  • The playground’s scenario library, the scenario catalog and the scenario counts on the Kafka Simulator page list only the scenarios the release ships.
  • The cluster type picker offers only the topologies the release ships, and tools appear with the release that brings them. Features by release lists both with their versions.
  • A docs page about a feature is published with the release that ships it, and a passage about a later addition appears only from that release on.

A shared link that names a free-play topology this release does not include opens the Single DC sandbox instead.

Which release you are using

The ⋯ menu in the playground’s top bar shows the build as build · followed by the version. Select it to open Versions & roadmap: the released versions, each with its theme and how many scenarios it added, then the upcoming ones. The changelog has the same list as a page. On a numbered build, the scenario library ends with a note, More scenario packs coming soon.

For a version that has not shipped, the roadmap shows only its theme; its scenarios and features arrive with it.
